All the moaning and complaining I’ve done about not having Ikea here in South Africa has had the most unexpected results: Two readers of this blog took pity at the poor Ikea-less me, and sent me boxes full of Ikea treats. It’s true – I took photos to prove it!
Above, you can see some of the treasures sent by dear, sweet Melinda in the USA. The purse is in daily use, the apron is proudly sported while washing the dishies, and the enorma sack is gazed at admiringly in my studio. Melinda also sent a beautiful bit of fabric, destined for cushionhood, two adorable cork lidded ceramic containers, both headed for transfer fun, and a 2009 Ikea catalogue for me to drool over too. What riches!
And then the very talented Norwegian Janne – she of the amazing crockery collection and owner of JB Design – sent me these two Petra Borner designed bits of Ikea fabric, along with some of her handmade treats. I can’t tell you how it blows me away that a low-cost furniture store provides ordinary shoppers with access to goods made by top-end designers. It’s fantastic!
Janne also sent this gorgeous brooch, which she made from a shard of vintage crockery. I’ve worn it every single day!
